Cefpodoxime proxetil is an oral cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections of the skin, such as wounds and abscesses as well as bladder and respiratory infections in dogs and skin and soft tissue infections in cats.

How does Cefpoderm (Cefpodoxime Proxetil) Tablet work?
Cefpodoxime Proxetil Tablets are indicated for the treatment of skin infections (wounds and abscesses) in dogs caused by susceptible strains of Staphylococcus intermedius, Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus canis (group G, ß hemolytic), Escherichia coli, Pasteurella multocida, and Proteus mirabilis.

What are the side effects of Cefpoderm (Cefpodoxime Proxetil) Tablet?
Antimicrobial drugs, including penicillins and cephalosporins, can cause allergic reactions in sensitized individuals. To minimize the possibility of allergic reactions, those handling such antimicrobials, including cefpodoxime, are advised to avoid direct contact of the product with the skin and mucous membranes.
What special precautions are there?
The safety of cefpodoxime proxetil in dogs used for breeding, pregnant dogs, or lactating bitches has not been demonstrated. As with other cephalosporins, cefpodoxime proxetil may occasionally induce a positive direct Coombs’ test.
What to do if overdose?
Contact your veterinarian or veterinary emergency room. Symptoms of overdose (thyrotoxicosis) may include increased thirst, urination and hunger, hyperactivity, personality change, and reduced heat tolerance.
How can I store Cefpoderm (Cefpodoxime Proxetil) Tablet?
Store tablets at controlled room temperature 20° to 25°C (68° to 77°F). Replace cap securely after each opening.

Cefpodoxime proxetil is an oral antibiotic. Follow the directions given by your veterinarian. Keep plenty of water available for your pet to drink. Give all the medication prescribed even if your pet seems to be fully recovered.
Overview
Give this medication exactly as directed by your veterinarian. The usual dose of cefpodoxime proxetil in dogs is 2.3-4.5mg/pound, given by mouth, once a day for 5 to 7 days or 2 to 3 days beyond the cessation of clinical signs, up to a maximum of 28 days.
