Who is Liquamycin LA-200 (oxytetracycline injection) for?
For use in swine, cattle, and livestock.
Why use Liquamycin LA-200 (oxytetracycline injection)?
Liquamycin LA-200 is an easily-administered injection that treats a variety of diseases associated with gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. Such diseases include: Wooden tongue, L. Pomona (leptospirosis), Wound infection, Metritis, Bacterial scours, Diphtheria, Foot rot, Shipping fever, Pneumonia and Pink eye.
How does Liquamycin LA-200 (oxytetracycline injection) work?
Oxytetracycline interferes with bacteria's ability to produce necessary proteins. Bacteria are unable to grow without those proteins, so they can no longer multiply. Therefore, oxytetracycline stops infections from spreading, and any remaining bacteria are effectively killed by the animal's immune system or die independently.

If administering intravenously, this medication should be slowly and carefully injected to minimize chances of shock. Treated animals could experience short-term hemoglobinuria and subsequent dark urine post-injection. Like any antibiotic, this drug can cause overgrowth of non-susceptible bacteria and/or fungi. New symptoms or lack of improvement can indicate that overgrowth of such organisms is occurring. If this happens, notify your veterinarian.
What special precautions are there?
Milk withholding period is 96 hours. Meat withdrawal period is 28 days. When administering, eye protection, gloves, and protective clothing should always be worn. Severe eye irritation can occur. Harmful when swallowed. Not for use in humans. Keep out of reach of animals and children. Because bacteriostatic medications can interfere with penicillin's bactericidal action, Vetrimycin should not be administered in conjunction with any penicillin drugs.
